What is Frase?
Frase is a content operating system for search: software that decides what to write, writes it, publishes it and watches how it performs on Google and in AI answers. Frase reads your site, Search Console data and competitors to build a ranked opportunity report, then its AI agent researches the pages that rank, writes a brief and a full draft in your voice, and scores it twice: once for Google (SEO score) and once for AI citation (GEO score). Finished pieces publish to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix or FraseCMS, a hosted CMS that is free up to 100,000 page views a month. After publishing, Content Guard monitors rankings and traffic and drafts a revision when a page slips, while AI Visibility tracks citations in ChatGPT and Google AI, with Perplexity, Claude and Gemini on higher plans. Every change waits for approval by default; you can let the agent publish on its own per content type. Frase also runs inside Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients and from a command-line tool.
Frase is a web-based SEO and generative engine optimization (GEO) platform that runs the content loop end to end, from SERP research to publishing and refreshing. An AI agent drafts in your brand voice, each draft gets separate SEO and GEO scores, posts publish in one click to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix or Frase's own FraseCMS, and Content Guard drafts a fix when a live page loses rankings. Starter costs $49/month ($39 billed yearly) for 1 seat, 1 site and 10 articles a month; Professional costs $129/month ($103 yearly) with 3 seats, 5 sites and 40 articles; Scale costs $299/month ($239 yearly) with 5 seats, 10 domains and 100 articles. Every plan includes MCP, CLI and API access, and the 7-day trial needs no credit card. Frase cites 4.8/5 from 307+ G2 reviews; Trustpilot shows 3.7/5 from 66 reviews.
Standout feature: Content Guard, which watches published pages for Google rank and traffic decay, writes the revision and republishes it to your CMS once you approve, alongside separate SEO and GEO scores on every draft.
Biggest weakness: Article volume is capped tightly for the price: 10 a month on Starter and 40 on Professional, with optional overages at $4-$5 per article. Trustpilot reviewers (3.7/5 from 66 reviews) also report inconsistent features, slow support, and lifetime-deal buyers who say they lost access or were left behind when the platform was rebuilt.
Frase: pros and cons
Pros
- SEO and GEO scores on every draft show what is still missing for Google and for AI citation before anything publishes.
- Publishes directly to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity and Wix, or to FraseCMS, which is free up to 100,000 page views a month.
- MCP server, CLI and API on every plan, from 5,000 to 50,000 requests a month, including during the trial.
- 7-day trial with no credit card, and Starter stops at its limits instead of billing overages.
- Writes natively in 70+ languages rather than translating.
Cons
- Only 10 articles a month on Starter and 40 on Professional; overages cost $5 per article on Professional and $4 on Scale.
- AI Visibility covers ChatGPT and Google AI on Starter; Perplexity needs Professional, and Claude and Gemini need Scale.
- Starter keeps current data only, with no reporting history; Professional keeps 3 months.
- White-label reports and client portals are Enterprise-only, so agencies on Scale get plain exportable reports.
