How findalternative.to works

findalternative.to is a directory of software alternatives. Every page exists to answer one question honestly: if you're leaving a product, what should you use instead? This page explains where our data comes from, how rankings are built, and exactly what money does and does not buy on this site.

Where listing data comes from

Every listing starts from the product's own website: name, pricing, platforms, and features are extracted from the vendor's public pages, with the extraction date recorded. Pricing shown on our pages carries a “pricing verified” date — that is the day we last read it on the vendor's site, not the day the page was generated. Listings also show third-party review scores (G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, Product Hunt) with their review counts, clearly attributed and linked to the source. Those scores belong to those platforms; we display them, we don't own them or fold them into our own markup.

We use AI tooling (Claude) to do the reading and drafting at scale, under a fixed editorial rulebook: no invented facts, mandatory cons for every product, no marketing language. Drafts flow into a human review queue; pages can be corrected or removed at any time, and every listing shows when it was last updated.

How rankings are ordered

Alternatives lists are ordered by an editorial rank built from, in rough order of weight:

  1. Fit — how directly the tool replaces the product on the page (same job, migration path, overlapping feature set).
  2. User signals on this site — likes and “I use this” marks from signed-in users.
  3. Third-party review standing — score and volume on the review platforms above.
  4. Data quality and freshness — products whose pricing and details are recently verified rank above stale ones.

What money buys here — and what it doesn't

We sell four things: instant listing review ($29 one-time), a free listing path via a verification badge, a Featured subscription ($49/month), and time-based ad slots. Here is the entire effect each one has:

No payment of any kind changes a product's rank, score, pros/cons, or how it's described. If you ever find a page where that doesn't hold, email [email protected] and we'll fix it publicly.

Corrections

Vendors can claim their listing and correct factual errors from their dashboard; anyone else can report a problem from any listing page. Corrections that survive verification ship with the page's next update and refresh its “last updated” date.

Who runs this

findalternative.to is run by Noah. Pages carry a byline and a real update date because we expect to be held to both.
