Terms of service

These terms govern your use of findalternative.to (the "site"), run by Noah. By using the site, creating an account, submitting a listing or paying for a service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

What the site is

findalternative.to is an editorial directory of software alternatives. Rankings follow the methodology: fit, user signals, third-party review standing and data freshness. Paid options buy speed of review or clearly labeled placement. They never buy rank and they never change the editorial text of a listing.

Accounts

You sign in with a Google or GitHub account. Keep that account secure; you are responsible for what happens under your login.
Accounts are personal and may not be shared, sold or transferred.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, tries to manipulate rankings or votes, or is used to attack the site.

Submitting a tool

You may submit a tool only if you are entitled to describe it publicly. Impersonating a company or misusing its trademarks is not allowed.
What you submit must be accurate. We verify pricing and other claims, edit for accuracy and house style, and may decline or delist a listing at any time.
By submitting text, logos or screenshots you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish, adapt and distribute them on the site, in its machine-readable versions, and in previews shown by search engines and AI assistants. You keep ownership.
Trademarks and logos of listed products belong to their owners and are shown to identify those products.

The badge program

A free listing stays live through the verified badge: a badge on your website that links back to your listing. Our crawler re-checks it on a weekly cycle. If the badge disappears or its link is set to nofollow, the listing enters a seven-day grace period; after that its outbound link is switched to nofollow, and a badge that is not restored is revoked and the free listing may be delisted. Listing owners are emailed at each step.

Paid services

Instant listing review. A one-time fee, shown at checkout, buys a prompt editorial review, not approval. If we reject a paid submission the fee is refunded automatically and the reason is emailed to you.
Featured. A monthly subscription for a clearly labeled Featured card. It renews each month until you cancel it through the billing portal in your dashboard. Cancelling stops future charges; the card stays live until the end of the period already paid.
Ad slots. Booked per day, with the total and any duration discount shown before you pay. Up to three sponsors share the placement on any given day, shown in an order that rotates daily; a booking is never exclusive. Bookings are for the dates you selected. If we cannot run a booked ad, contact us and we will refund the affected days.
Prices are in US dollars and exclude any taxes that apply to you. Payments are processed by Stripe under its own terms. We may change prices for future purchases; existing subscribers are notified before a change takes effect.
We may refuse or remove any ad or Featured placement that is misleading, unlawful or off-topic, refunding the unused portion.

Acceptable use

No unlawful, defamatory or infringing content.
No fake likes, votes or reviews, and no other attempts to influence rankings.
No attacks on the site, its users or its infrastructure, and no attempts to access data that is not yours.
Reading the site, including with automated tools, is welcome; the markdown mirrors and llms.txt exist for exactly that. Please do not overload the servers.

Content and accuracy

We work hard on accuracy and every price shows the date it was verified, but software changes fast. Information on the site is general guidance, not professional, financial or legal advice. Check current terms with the vendor before you buy. Links lead to third-party sites we do not control.

Our content

Editorial text, rankings, comparisons and the site design are owned by us or licensed to us. You may quote excerpts with attribution and a link. Search engines and AI assistants may crawl, index and cite the site; the machine-readable versions are published for that purpose.

Disclaimer and liability

The site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability for any claim connected to the site is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars if you paid nothing. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Ending the relationship

You can stop using the site at any time and ask us to delete your account. We can suspend or end access for breach of these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive, such as licences to published content, liability limits and payment obligations, continue to apply.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are handled by the state or federal courts located in Delaware, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring proceedings at home.

Changes

We may update these terms. The effective date at the top shows the current version; continued use after a change means you accept it.
